Times they are a-changing and Open Science is here to stay! Openness, transparency and societal impact are the principles that (re)shape academic practice. These new practices should also be reflected in our teaching. Not only to train a generation of researchers for whom Open Science is the norm, but in particular to allow Open Science to live up to its full potential: we need to train both the future producers of knowledge and the future consumers of knowledge such that interactions between the two can flourish.

At Utrecht University, we are taking the first steps down this avenue (see our Manifesto). These include providing students with an Open Science Mindset and an Open Science Skillset, throughout our curricula. The training materials themselves should reflect the principles of Open Science as well and should therefore be open and adhere to the FAIR principles. We conclude with the notion that this transition is only possible if it is accompanied by changes in how education is recognized and rewarded in academic career paths.
