Despite its central importance to healthy everyday functioning, paradoxically, no standardized tests of individual differences in autobiographical memory exists. The goal of this proposal is to begin to fill this gap. First, we want to develop and validate a new and psychometrically robust test for measuring general trends in autobiographical remembering, conceived as a reliable individual differences dimension. Second, we want to examine how this test relates to a theoretically motivated selection of constructs, addressing memory, self and personality, and symptoms of psychopathology, using both self-report- and experimental data. The program will facilitate a stronger integration of autobiographical memory in fields generally concerned with individual differences, such as health psychology, social and personality psychology. It will generate a robust and easily administered autobiographical memory test to be used in a variety of settings.
