Cognitive psychology examines the underlying mental processes of human thinking and behaviour. This includes perception, attention, memory, language, emotion and problem-solving.
We combine theoretical models with experimental methods to analyse and understand the cognitive mechanisms that shape our everyday lives. We uncover the neural foundations for these processes and develop new methods to measure and describe complex cognition such as consciousness and decision-making. We also explore how we can apply cognitive theory in practice-oriented areas such as witness psychology, clinical psychology and developmental psychology. Through empirical studies, we generate new knowledge that not only deepens our understanding of cognition but also contributes to developing solutions to practical and societal challenges.
