The first time you work with the tool

Recommended order

1: Start by using the 360-degree tool

Begin using the tools by learning how to use the 360-degree tool.

Open the app and choose the 360-degree tool. By using the tool, you will get to know each of the ten skills and what they are about. Take your time when learning how to use the tool – minimum half an hour. If you want to get an in-depth knowledge about the tool and each of the skills, you should allot some hours, maybe over a couple of days. The tool will guide you to an understanding of how and in which situations each of the skills do in fact work well for you, as well as of how you can develop each skill and improve your use of them.

  • Choose the skills one by one
  • How does each skill work well for you?
  • How can you empower each of your skills?

2: Next, use the LGT tool

LGT = Life Psychological Goal-setting tool

Next, you should use the LGT tool to work on a challenge of own choice. Open the app, choose the LGT tool and it will guide you in setting a goal and choosing among your general life skills by means of which you may take the next step towards your goals.

Choose a life challenge, which you want to work on here and now. Then take your time to set a well-defined goal. This goal will show you how to handle your challenge. A goal directed at what you want to happen and a desired change in your life.

  • Choose a challenge in your life
  • Set a goal
  • Choose one or more skills by means of which to reach the goal¨
  • Define your next step towards the goal

3: Do it! Start taking your next step

The aim of the LGT tool is to use one or several of the skills you have defined and to perform your next step towards your goal.

Unfortunately, it will often be the case that one decides for a next step and promises oneself (or others) to perform it; however, after some time one must realize that one did not take the step at all.

Often the reason for this is that the next step is too vague or lacking in motivation.

It is therefore important:

  • that the next step is as concrete and specific as possible. When you define your next step, be precise about: Who is involved in your next step? What should the next step specifically accomplish? When should you take the next step? (be as precise as possible, e.g. “next Wednesday 2:30 PM”). Where will you take your next step? The LGT Tool helps you optimize your next step.
  • Likewise, it is important that the next step is in fact motivating. The LGT tool contains a guide on how to make the next step motivational.

Deciding to do a small step, which you will in fact take, is better than a bigger step not taken

  • Now is the time to act on your challenge in the chosen way
  • Perform your next step within the next couple of days or weeks
  • Maybe only once, maybe several times.

4: Think about how you use the tools

LET = Life Psychological evaluation tool

When you, after some days or weeks, have had the opportunity to perform you next step towards you goal, you may want to do some evaluation.

Open the app and choose the LET Tool. This tool will help you consider how things are going with regard to achievement of your goal. Did you take your next step when possible and relevant? Should something be changed? Another next step? (because you succeeded in doing the one you chose, or because it lacked in specificity and motivation). A new goal? (because you achieved your goal, or because it should be changed). Choosing some of the other general life skills by means of which to work your way towards your goal?

  • Did you take your next step?
  • Should you change something about your goal, choice of skills or next step?
  • Should you use the tools differently in a way that will make better sense for you?

Use the tools systematically and over some time

Choose an optimal time where you can work uninterruptedly (e.g., same weekday once a week and preferably same time of the day).

Open the app and choose the LGT tool. It will guide you through the process of defining a next step towards your goal.

Then in the next couple of days: do it! Perform your next step whenever possible and appropriate.

After a week (on the chosen weekday and time) you begin to use the LET tool to reflect on how things went. Did you take your next step? Is there anything you want to change (a new challenge? A slight change of goal? Choosing another skills resulting in new next steps?). Duration approximately 10 minutes (but take all the time you need, of course).

When you have finished filling in the LET form, you open the LGT tool. Based on your considerations guided by the LET tool you will now fill in the LGT form.

Maybe you want to fill in the LGT form in the same way as you did last time, that is, continue your work with the challenge you have chosen in an unchanged way. Or maybe you want to do some changes. Either way –always fill in a new LGT form, even if it is exactly the same thing you type. It helps you stay on track.

  • Maybe you want to use the tools only once.
  • Maybe you want to use the tools in a systematic way once a week for several weeks or months (depending on the challenge and goal you have chosen).
  • Maybe you want to continue working on new challenges and goals.
